Welcome to neko. The Service is provided and operated by the service operator (the "Operator"). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use our website and services (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy is designed to comply with applicable data protection laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and similar global standards.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information

We collect your email address and optional profile details when you create an account. We use secure authentication to protect access. This data is processed to fulfill our contract with you and maintain account functionality.

Chat Data

We store your AI chat interactions (messages, timestamps, character context) to enable seamless conversation continuity. You may request deletion at any time. This data is processed based on our legitimate interest in providing personalized services.

Usage Information

We track how you use neko (e.g., visited pages, time spent, features accessed) to improve functionality and user experience. This data is collected under our legitimate interest in service improvement.

Your prompts and conversations may be transmitted to and processed by third-party model providers to generate AI responses; their terms and privacy policies apply. Please avoid including sensitive personal information.
We do not currently use your content to train our own or third-party models. If we later use it for model training, we will provide prior notice and obtain consent, apply de-identification/pseudonymization, and offer an opt-out.

4. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored and managed with reasonable safeguards, including encryption and other technical, administrative, and physical measures to protect against unauthorized access, loss, alteration, or disclosure.

5. Content Ownership & Use

You retain ownership of your characters and messages. By using neko, you grant the Operator and its service providers (including third-party AI/infrastructure) a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable license to operate, maintain, and enhance the Service. We will not publicly share your content without your explicit consent.

6. Third-Party Services

neko uses select third-party services to operate core features. These services may process limited data to provide specific functionality:

Google – used solely for user authentication. We do not share personal data with Google beyond what is necessary for sign-in.
Resend – used to send account-related emails such as verification or notifications. Email addresses are processed only for message delivery.
OpenAI, OpenRouter, and Google Gemini – used to process your character prompts and chat messages to generate AI responses. These services may temporarily process content under their own privacy terms. Users are advised not to include sensitive personal information in chats. Detailed handling follows the 'Use of Your Information' and 'Content Ownership & Use' sections.
Toss Payments – used to securely process payments. When you make a purchase, your order details, payment amount, and basic user identifier may be shared with Toss Payments to complete the transaction.

No personal data is shared with third-party services beyond what is required to provide the neko experience.

7. Children's Privacy

neko is not intended for individuals under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we discover that a minor has submitted information, we will delete it promptly.

We process your personal data based on your consent, contractual necessity, legal obligations, or our legitimate interests, where applicable. You may exercise these rights by emailing zombcat@nekochat.xyz, and we will respond within a reasonable timeframe.

9. Data Retention

We retain your data only as long as necessary for the purposes outlined in this policy. You may delete your account at any time; upon deletion or termination, data is removed from live systems and backups roll off on a periodic schedule. Payment and accounting records required by law are retained for the mandated period and deleted afterward. Derived or de-identified data (e.g., logs, statistics) may not be retrievable.

10. Policy Updates

We may revise this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in law or our practices. Revisions will be posted here with an updated effective date. Your continued use constitutes acceptance of changes.
